Bios

Suzy Perelman - Violin

Violinist Suzy Perelman is originally from Philadelphia, PA. A former member of the Utah and San Antonio Symphonies, Suzy is now a freelance violinist in New York City. She can be heard playing in many films, TV commercials, rock band albums, and Broadway and shows including Phantom of the Opera for which she was the concertmaster for 2 straight years. Suzy is a member of the Brooklyn Philharmonic and plays also with the Long Island Philharmonic, the Westchester Philharmonic, and the Pit Stop Players. Suzy is a private violin teacher to 14 young violinists who take lessons in her living room. She is also the assistant to the executive director of and frequent concert artist for Concerts in Motion, a charity that brings live music to the homebound. Suzy also performs for Music for Autism, a charity that brings concerts to people with autism. Suzy has the honor of being named Music for Autism’s “Spotlight Artist of 2011”. In her spare time, Suzy enjoys playing word games, flying trapeze, playing chamber music with friends, jogging, and Israeli Dancing.

Nicole Johnson - Cello

Nicole Johnson grew up in a musical family in the Chicago area and is the third generation of string quartet players in her family. She started cello at seven with Nell Novak. Later she attended Walnut Hill School of the Arts near Boston, Cleveland Institute of Music and The Juilliard School. She was a founding member of the Avanti Ensemble in Blacksburg Virginia, where she also taught cello and chamber music at the Renaissance Music Academy of Virginia. As a member of the Manhattan based Cassatt String Quartet, Ms. Johnson continually commissions, premieres, and records music of top American composers, as well as performing the works of the old masters. Ms. Johnson teaches at Hoff-Barthelson School, Diller-Quaile School and the Special Music School in Manhattan, where she enjoys the opportunity to pass along to her more than 20 students, the wisdom and inspiration of her teachers: Alan Harris, Andres Diaz, and Joel Krosnick. Ms. Johnson plays on a French cello from 1806.

Liza Wu - Piano

Korean/Chinese-American pianist Liza Wu enjoys an engaging musical life in New York, working with many favored instrumentalists and vocalists, including two of her dearest colleagues, Suzy Perelman and Nicole Johnson. After Liza's solo and collaborative studies at Interlochen Arts Academy, Oberlin Conservatory, and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with renowned pedagogues Victoria Mushkatkol, Joseph Schwartz, Lydia Frumkin, Haskell Thomson, Anne Epperson, and Russell Miller, she held positions with Columbia Artists Theatricals (Asst. Music Director/Pianist, Wonderful Town National Tour), the New York Youth Symphony Singers (Asst. Music Director/Pianist), the 2,800-family member Church of St. Denis in Hopewell Junction, NY (Music Director/Organist), and the Diller-Quaile School of Music (Pianist and Piano/Chamber Music Instructor). Currently she is a pianist and vocal coach at Barnard College of Columbia University; a pianist of Bronx Opera Company, the School for Strings, the Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass, Concerts in Motion, and Interlochen Center for the Arts (IAC: High School Instrumental Division/Concerto Competition; Music Theater Intensive; Trumpet Institute). Additionally beginning this fall, she will join the National Chorale as a pianist and instructor of sight-singing, as an Artist-in-Residence at the New York Professional Performing Arts High School in midtown Manhattan.
